She shares practical tips on identifying daily tasks—“cha ching moves”—that directly lead to sales, reminding listeners that without sales, a business is just a hobby. Val encourages consistent outreach to potential clients and regular email communication to keep your business top-of-mind.

She also advises prioritizing income-generating tasks and urgent deadlines, pushing less critical items aside to avoid overwhelm. Val Selby [:

Hello. Alright. We'll see if my mongrels are going to be good dogs for this attempt at recording because they are not being good dogs in a state to driving me insane. I don't know why. It's an empty nester. We decided to get these dogs. Couldn't we just enjoy the empty nest just a little bit? We didn't enjoy it one bit before we had fur babies still. I mean, we've always had fur babies, but I need a vacation from them, obviously, because mama can't deal with day in and day out with them right now. Yeah. Especially big boy, driving me insane.

Val Selby [:

Okay. La, la, la. Last week, we talked about focus. Focus, focus, focus. Gave you tips. It's number one thing that I hear from new people joining my communities and also from people that are starting to join my memberships. It's just a big thing. I get it.

Val Selby [:

I end up having focus issues as well. It's human. And the number 2 thing that I wanted to dive into, because 1 plus 2 equals 3. So focus is number 1. Number 2 is that you don't know what to do, which will be a lot easier now because you figured out your focus from the last one. Right? Because that is why it's a 1, 2 punch. If you don't have a focus, you sure as hell don't know what you're gonna have to work on. And I want you to make sure that you are working on sales at all times.

Val Selby [:

You're a business. Sales equals being a business. No sales equals being a hobby. Okay? So you have to get out there. You have to put your products, your services out there. There's no option. There is absolutely no option for not doing that. I'm calling these daily actions, cha ching moves.

Val Selby [:

We're gonna see if it sticks. Might not even stick for me. I don't know. I'm testing it out. It sounded fun. Cha ching moves. Cha ching. Cha ching.

Val Selby [:

Right? So we're making money moves. Cha ching moves. We want to get sales. Your focus is what your business is and who you're helping and your products, how you're going to do that. That's what you're focusing on. The who, what, and all of that. So now what are you going to do that? What are you going to do daily to work towards that? Goal of sales, which is also a focus. Sales is also a focus.

Val Selby [:

So you need to go through and figure out how can I talk to somebody today that could lead to a sale? Now I'm not talking about, gosh, I've been seeing this word lead gen everywhere now, and I understand that, yes, it's lead gen. I get it. I get it. But mostly, I'm seeing it in the coaching community. So it's feeling - it feels icky. So I don't like the word lead gen. It's just feeling it's one of those cringey words. It's turned into one of those cringey phrases, cringey words for me.

Val Selby [:

Lead gen. It's like, oh, it's just screams that you're DM ing and you're trying to get that 1-on-1 sale and you don't even know the person. And that's just the vibe I get now because that's what's been happening is is people are you gotta do lead gen, and they're all over DMs. And it's like, I don't even know who the fuck you are. Why are you just instantly saying, hey. Glad we connected. Here's what I've got. No.

Val Selby [:

We didn't connect, obviously, because I don't even know you yet. Maybe I left a comment in the group. I don't know. Who the hell are you? Make a connection first. Ranty, ranty, ranty. Make a connection. So I want you to take a look at how you can be getting the word out there to the people that you are connected with. Those are the cha ching moves that I want you to be making.

Val Selby [:

I want you to be emailing your list as much as close to daily as possible for you. As - did you hear that? I want you to be emailing your list as close to daily as you possibly can because that's your list. And when you don't contact your list, it's shitty. Those people are on your list to hear from you. If they don't hear from you, they don't care about you because they don't remember. It's not that they think badly about you or anything. They don't think about you at all. And that's not mean.

Val Selby [:

That's not negative. It's just there's so much going on in everybody's life that you have to make sure that you bump your business up in their emails. You have to get information of who you are, who you help, all of that information to them consistently. So as close to daily as possible. If you are watching the video, you are seeing my monster purebred lab driving me bonkers, walking all over the place. Yeah, boo boo bear. Yeah. I know.

Val Selby [:

I totally ripped you a new one just a little bit ago. I'm full for you. We'll go throw a ball in a little bit. Just give me a couple minutes. He is. He's - I don't know if I can get him his face on camera. Oh my gosh. Anyhoo, what are you gonna work on? You are gonna work on emails to your people.

Val Selby [:

Emails to your people. You're gonna work on reaching out to your people. You're gonna work on finishing your projects. Be a finisher. Get those projects done. It's actually what I've been posting, like, to my accountability buddy. And I am a finisher because I have quite a few projects up in the air right now. And yes, I have team members that help me with that.

Val Selby [:

So that's why there's multiple projects on there. Otherwise, no way in the world would I have multiple projects on there. So there's multiple projects on there right now. And I have a goal of those getting completed. I'm not even looking at the steps of this and this and this. Those are naturally written out in my Asana. I am looking ahead at the fact that this will be a completed project. Again, if you're watching the video, you are seeing my dog is up for adoption.

Val Selby [:

It's up for adoption. So gross. He's such a boy dog. He's so gross. Okay. So what to work on? What is going to move your business forward? And when I say forward, I mean that you are connecting with your potential clients and you are making sales to potential clients. That's gonna move your business forward. It's really, really difficult for me to sit here right now and tell you exactly what to do in your to do list.

Val Selby [:

That's why I do private group, small group coachings for stuff like this. It's now we have I have to sit down with you and your business and figure out exactly. Okay. Give me your list that you are making that aren't getting completed, and let's go through them and let's highlight so you can do that. Those giant lists that you are probably making that even if you had a hundred people on your staff daily, you wouldn't get done. Take that and circle the ones that are going to get you money. Circle those first. Yeah.

Val Selby [:

I'll just go through get biz done little workshop thingy that we've done before. So you've got that giant list. Go through it right now and circle the things that are gonna make you money. And circle the things in a different color, if possible, circle the things that have to get completed because there's deadlines coming up. Then go back over it and highlight the 3 to 5 things for today that have to get done. Period. The end.

Val Selby [:

They have to get done. And there should be some way that you are asking for sales. In that 3 to 5, there should be a way that you are asking for sales. For me, I am been committed to a daily email. There's days I'm not getting an email out. I will absolutely admit that. And I'm not always selling in my emails either. Okay? I am working hard at what's the balance gonna look like for the education in there? You know, thankfully, I've got the podcast, so that goes out every Tuesday.

Val Selby [:

So that one I've just focused on, that's just education. Come here, listen, get these tips, but I will be reaching out for sales in other ways because I didn't put it in my emails, in my email for the Tuesday. So make sure that there's cha ching moves on your list, at least 1, and focus on what the deadlines are for right now. But the big thing is what to work on. Take a look at what's on your list and start moving things off to the side from that list. This is why I love post notes. Move them over to the side if they're not gonna move you forward in the next 90 days. Because in all probability, you're looking at something that you feel like you should be doing versus something that is important that you do because you know it will move you forward.

Val Selby [:

So take a look, and especially if those things are on your list that you keep moving to the next day, moving to the next day. This is why I love having my accountability buddy. We have our own private group, and every day, we post what we're going to do. And it's very easy. We're not knocking each other because we both do it. It's very easy when we're posting to each other. Okay. Monday, this.

Val Selby [:

Okay. I didn't get this done. It moved it to Tuesday. Okay. It's on Tuesday's list. Oh, well, shit. That didn't get done today either. Now it's on Wednesday's list.

Val Selby [:

So it's very easy for those things that keep getting moved that, you know, after 2 or 3 moves, I am paying attention to it, and I'm like, okay. Why is this getting moved? Is it because it's not within my focus? These are usually the reasons actually. It's not within my focus. It's not a money, a money task, a cha ching move. It's not a cha ching move, or I just don't wanna do it. And I'm paying attention to that. You know, I'm not working on things that I no longer want to work on. There's so much stuff to work on every day, even with help.

Val Selby [:

There's so much to work on that it's very important for my sanity and my energy to work on the stuff that's going to improve my business in a quicker way and be part of that focus, which can be tough for me. I love jumping into stuff. I really do. It's my favorite thing. We don't even need to plan. We're just gonna do it right now. So I do have a little bit of that in there because I know that that's how I do get some like weird motivation off of that. But otherwise, I am working on changing, because I'm just like you.

Val Selby [:

I have projects that were started, and then I haven't had time. So then they were on the list. Right? And those are what I'm talking about. They're on their list of should get done. That's fine. Go create the should get done list over separately from your to do list for today. Put those shoulds over some things else and just focus on the ones that do need to get done, that are going to push your business forward, that are going to keep you in business, which means you're making sales. Sales keep you in business.

Val Selby [:

So those are tips to help you get through the what to do. I would love to be able to just sit here and go, oh, you need this, this, this, and this, but that'd be bullshit. That would be me being that hypocrite that I talk about all of the time. Nobody knows your business better than you. I can come in and help you figure it out for your specific lesson. I can absolutely help that, but that's gonna take a 1-on-1 or a small group, you know, small 3 to 5 group. It's gonna take that for me to be able to sit there and and help you figure out exactly what you should be working on because you want to work on it. Not should.

Val Selby [:

I use the should, and I told you to go do the shoulds over there. I should it all over myself. The things that you want to work on will narrow it down. So if you're interested in that, reach out. But otherwise, take a look at your list and see how you can get it down to those cha ching moves and get some cha ching in your account. Okay? Next week, I'm gonna come back with the number 3. So we got 1 plus 2 equals the 3. And if you weren't listening to my emails a couple weeks ago, I'm just gonna leave you hanging on what number 3 is.

Val Selby [:

You're just gonna have to come back and figure out what the end of the equation is. I will see you, talk to you next week. Bye.
